FreeForm by Jack Dickson

Debut novel in Jas Anderson Trilogy

Gritty, gay cop anti-hero fights corruption in Glasgow

LOS ANGELES—June 28, 2019—ReQueered Tales is proud to announce it has formed a new publishing venture to re-publish older gay and lesbian fiction — with an immediate focus on mystery, horror and suspense genres. Our fourth release, available worldwide on Amazon as a Kindle e-book, is FREEFORM by Scotland’s Jack Dickson. Gay Scotland put it bluntly: Jack Dickson’s FreeForm is “a reflection of the darker side of our desires”.

A tough gay thriller set in the criminal underworld of Glasgow, Scotland. Set in the derelict inner-city of Glasgow’s Dennistoun, FreeForm introduces a tough new gay cop, Detective-Sergeant Jas Anderson. A violent anti-hero, suspended from duty for assault when the story opens, Jas is the natural suspect when Leigh, his lover and partner in a heavy S/M relationship, is found brutally murdered. Now on the run and struggling to clear his name, Jas uncovers Leigh’s involvement in a blackmail ring, and even his lover’s identity becomes confused. Film-noir in inspiration, vividly characterised, and authentically exposing the raw nerves of Thatcherite Britain, FreeForm appeals to a wide readership.

Reviewers loved it too. Gay Times said FreeForm’s “intricate plots which combine elements of the hard-boiled and intensely erotic” built on the success and craft of his debut novel: “characters that are extremely dangerous to know … address all the most dangerous and degrading of all abuses – power!”.

In the US, FreeForm was raved about by scholar Drewey Wayne Gunn in Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film: “More than any other sleuth, Jas Anderson demonstrates the complex circuitry that connects brain, heart, and penis and exemplifies how the power of the last can sometimes short-circuit the other two.”

Jack Dickson – former bass player, fashionisto and classically trained pianist – works and lives in the east end of Glasgow with his partner and his Jack Russell, Dixie. A novelist, screenwriter and currently playwright, Jack continues to obsess over the damaged, charismatic mavericks who fill his novels. Shamelessly mining the world around him and beyond, he writes about junkies and babies, old ladies and ash trees, soldiers and Afghani dancing boys: ordinary people just trying to plough a furrow for themselves through difficult landscapes.

This first book in the Jas Anderson Thriller series, is available for the first time as an e-book. It’s available as a Kindle e-book for direct purchase or as part of Kindle Unlimited. This edition includes an exclusive 2019 foreword by Clive King, a Glasgow-based comedy and drama writer.
